Introduction
The High Flight Adventures Junior Camp is designed to trade inexperience for confidence, develop self esteem through achievement and to develop leadership.  This new program will accomplish these goals by using small group activities and close counselor relationships to present the basics of flight in a "science camp" format that is a unique combination of fun and discovery.

Primary Activities
Activities at the High Flight Adventures Junior Camp are designed to interest and challenge 12 and 13 year olds and include such activities as:

Aeromodeling

  • Build and fly a simple balsa glider

  • As a team, submit the best glider for judging

Rocketry
Learn how model rockets are flown and controlled

  • Build and fire a model rocket (you get to bring it home with you)

  • Launch, take telemetry, and recover model rockets

  • As a team, submit the best rocket for judging

Airplanes
Learn about aviation history and flight

  • Watch flight demonstrations
  • You will learn to fly, navigate and flight engineer a light aircraft
You will fly a 3 legged flight fulfilling each of these rolls. ie Rockliffe to Carp
you will fly as the Co-pilot, Carp to Ottawa you will be the Navigator, and from Ottawa back to Rockcliffe you will be the flight engineer
  • In the evening programs listen to veteran pilots speak of our aviation history

  • At night sleep in the Rockcliffe Flying Club, clubhouse

  • As a bonus, weather permitting, a free, 20 minute ride in an authentic Warbird. (Videoed and put on DVD to take home)

Leadership development through physical activity

  • Challenge Course
Activities that provide a group of campers a framework to become a stronger team. The group benefits by offering the individual a chance to develop new and enriched skills. How does this work? Participants are asked to work together to accomplish many goals. Through the process of reaching their goals, the group learns how to cooperate, problem solve, think creatively, communicate effectively, and manage conflict. As the group progresses, an attitude of care, concern, and trust for each person overpowers the need for competition and rivalry. The insights gained from the Challenge Course can be then transferred to real life situations.

  • Volleyball
